Medical Sisters of St. Joseph is a congregation of consecrated women who are passionately committed to become an extension of compassionate Jesus, through Healing ministry. The charism of congregation is to imitate the compassionate Jesus of the Gospels on the roads of the world so that our compassionate presence may bring healing and wholeness. Our main focus is the marginalized. Our Master is Jesus and according to our revered founder Servant of God Joseph Panjikaran, ‘By our works they shall know our Master’ is our inspiration. “As long as you did it to the least of my brethren you did it to me” (Mt.25.40). Inspired by these words of Jesus, we the family of MSJ are still passionately striving to extend our Charism of compassionate love through our presence in general hospitals, dispensaries, public health centers, home for the aged, home for the destitute, home for the mentally & physically challenged, the differently abled, mobile clinics, paramedical training centers, counseling centers, Holistic healing centers, retreat houses, de- addiction centers, centre for pain & palliative care, center for assisted living. Remembering our founder’s vision, ‘Through the body to the soul’ each MSJ engages in the healing mission to lead people to wholeness.
St. Joseph’s Hospital Kothamangalam is an extension of what was began by Servant of God Joseph C Panjikaran. It was started as a small dispensary in 1953 and from its humble beginning it has grown, over the years, to a full- fledged 300 bedded multi- speciality hospital with modern facilities as well as advanced super specialty departments. St. Joseph’s Hospital undertakes Extension clinics and Rural Health care projects also as village Extension programmes.
